Malia Hirschmann,PhD

Malia is committed to expanding access to youth sports, driven by a deep belief that all children should have the opportunity to play. She sees participation in sports as a valuable part of childhood development, offering benefits that go beyond physical health—supporting social connection, personal growth, and overall wellbeing.

Malia’s career in academia and the private sector has focused on developing behavioral programs that promote health and wellbeing across diverse populations. As a former Program Consultant with League One Volleyball (LOVB), she created Whole Athlete Training, a curriculum now implemented across all LOVB youth clubs to help young athletes build resilience, leadership, team connection, and self-care skills throughout the season. Bridging research, innovation, and advocacy, her work reflects a deep commitment to holistic, science-informed athlete development and to advancing gender equity by creating more supportive, empowering environments for girls and young women.

Since November 2023, Malia has served as President of the Board of The LOVB Foundation, where she works to create systems that make participation in volleyball more equitable and accessible to all young people and to elevate volleyball’s potential as a tool for positive social impact.
