Career Dedicated to Service

Jānis joins the board as a former D-1 volleyball player, coach, educator and administrator. For two decades, his career has brought him to the intersection of clinical medicine, post conflict development and larger health systems advancement.  He practices emergency medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, is on the Board of Directors of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine and has worked as a technical consultant for both the World Health Organization and the World Bank.

  • Played D-1 men’s volleyball at George Mason University. Was a four year letter winner and was the captain of his collegiate team his senior year.
  • Graduated the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, did his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago
  • Coaches the 17-2s National Team at Madtown Volleyball in Madison, Wisconsin with his wife Nikki.
  • Is a passionate about bringing leadership opportunities to individuals through access to the sport of volleyball
