Kathy DeBoer is a legendary figure in volleyball, celebrated for her leadership, coaching excellence, and transformative impact on the sport. She served as Executive Director of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for 17 years (2006–2023), guiding the organization through unprecedented growth. Before her tenure at the AVCA, she was a successful college coach and senior level administrator at the University of Kentucky and Ferris State University. She has a B.A. from Michigan State University and M.B.A. from Kentucky.
DeBoer has been inducted into multiple athletics Halls of Fame in recognition of her leadership & advocacy including University of Kentucky, Michigan State University, Ferris State University, USA Volleyball, and the AVCA.
DeBoer has written and lectured extensively about volleyball, sports, and college athletics. Her first book, titled Gender and Competition was published in 2004. She is a passionate advocate for equity, opportunity, and the empowering impact of philanthropic service.
